Monitoring
IN ASSOCIATION WITH PRONATURA NOROESTE, CONANP AND THE ANTHROPOCEN INSTITUTE WE ACQUIRED AND INSTALLED A RADAR SYSTEM TO IDENTIFY ILLEGAL FISHING IN THE CABO PULMO NATIONAL PARK.
The objective of the Marine Monitor (M2), one of the most innovative video surveillance and radar systems in the world, is to help detect illegal fishing within the 7,111 hectares of water and beaches of the park, especially at night when fishermen take advantage of the little visibility.
The radar captures images that allow local scientists to identify small and medium-sized vessels whose movement patterns indicate that they are fishing.
BY MAKING SURVEILLANCE OF OUR MARINE RESOURCES EASIER AND LESS EXPENSIVE, OUR RADAR PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE PRESERVATION OF MARINE BIODIVERSITY IN CABO DEL ESTE.
