WE SEEK TO ATTRACT RESEARCHERS WHO GENERATE SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION ON CRITICAL ISSUES FOR OUR REGION

BCI supports postgraduate students to come to Baja California Sur and carry out the necessary research for the development of their theses, offering them accommodations and other basic services during their stay; as well as facilitating their relationship and interaction with the community.

Ryan Anderson

Ryan was the first investigator chosen for our program. He spent a full year doing fieldwork in Cabo Pulmo to complete his doctoral dissertation entitled “The Value of Place: Development Policies in Cabo del Este in Baja California Sur, Mexico,” published by the University of Kentucky.

His theses provides valuable information about the impact of real estate expansion in this region; including an analysis of the way that locals feel and think about these real estate developments, as well as what they imply for the community. Also, as a result of his work, we were able to detect very important errors in an impact report made by a developer in the area; whose construction sediments and debris would have threatened the survival of the reef and the diversity of marine life that provides resources to the region.
